Exhibition “What has been, What is, What will be”

Welcome to an exhibition of art photography by Kerstin Rudnick, works taken in Iceland in the summer of 2025. One of the sources of inspiration is based on the myth of the three goddesses of fate – Urd, Verdandi and Skuld. They are responsible for the time where the past is connected to the present. Iceland’s mythology and barren beauty play a large part in this art photography project. The proximity to the stories and myths in Iceland fascinates and inspires. The relationship between nature, humans and animals becomes extra tangible in this powerful environment. Kerstin Rudnick creates images in a spirit of magical realism, and there is often a dystopian undertone mixed with the beauty and transience of nature.

Artist Statement

Kerstin Rudnick works with nature photography and staged photography as a method, often with herself or her daughter as a model. She creates images in a spirit of magical realism with inspiration drawn from Nordic myths, surrealism and the world of film. Questions about how we humans change and process nature are central themes. Nature, its power and inherent beauty play a large part in her visual world. Some of the images unite a recognizable and everyday world with a surrealist undertone. In other images, her textile background is combined with the photograph.
