Exhibition “Year of the Fire Horse”

In the joint exhibition “Year of the Fire Horse”, Carina Kinnmans blends the elegance of Scandinavian and Japanese minimalism and emphasizes lines, form, and structure through a monochrome palette of black and white. She primarily creates the works using Sumi ink on handmade Washi paper and occasionally enriches them with subtle mineral pigments. As a result, the images take on meditative, calligraphy-inspired forms. Throughout the exhibition, the philosophy of wabi-sabi plays a central role, celebrating imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty found in natural, authentic, and fleeting moments.

Recurring themes include lines, human presence, and non-figurative forms. Moreover, Carina’s long-standing passion for color and design has shaped her artistic practice over time. She previously worked as an art director and studied graphic design, illustration, typography, and painting, which continues to inform her visual language. In addition, her process incorporates traditional techniques such as handmade brushes and Uruachi mounting, which stabilizes and preserves the works. Additionally, Carina signs each piece with a vermillion seal and her personal Hanko stamp, honoring centuries-old Japanese and Korean traditions.

The result is a delicate balance of Eastern and Western influences, abstraction and minimalism, precision and spontaneity.
